My name is Sam (and yes, I do love green eggs and ham).
I grew up in Texas (much too hot), moved to Utah (much too cold), and now live in Seattle (much too rainy.) I hope some day to find my happy place.
I've set a firm goal to "retire" by 35, buy this boat, and spend the rest of my years floating around the world with my wife and son eating exotic foods, exploring exotic lands, and helping the people we come across to leverage the Internet to improve their quality of life. I'm a traveler at heart, and I love the ocean more than words can express.
I’m a member of MENSA, and have a quirk known as low latent inhibition. The rare combination of a high IQ and low latent inhibition means that I process and retain information in larger quantities much faster than average, making it easy for me to quickly learn and master new concepts and skills…
…unfortunately, it also tends to make me extremely restless. To combat that restlessness, I do the following:
Read (I have a personal library, physical and digital, in excess of 10,000 books),
watch movies (I own hundreds, and I've seen many thousands),
blog (I write for at least 3 or 4 different blogs at any given time),
cook/eat (I absolutely LOVE food),
travel (in 2014, I spent 2 months in Italy, 2 weeks in Belize, and had brief stops in London, New York, and Texas),
and start/run companies (5 so far, 2 living and 3 dead.)
You can learn a bit more about the things I love on my Favorites page.
In regards to professional experience, I have been involved with web design, e-commerce and Internet marketing in one form or another since 1999, when I built my very first website as a school project (back at the dawn of Google, when keyword stuffing actually worked.) I have extensive experience with search engine optimization (SEO), search marketing, reputation management, conversion optimization and social media marketing.
My current venture is an Internet marketing company called VUDU Marketing, which offers SEO audits and SEO strategy creation. I’ve done work for a number of major corporations (Scholastic, Mahindra, Thomas Global, to name just a few), as well as Fortune 500 companies (Microsoft, HTC, Nokia, and Fannie Mae).
I’m working on a handful of other ideas and ventures, and I’m always happy to lend my experience and expertise to other entrepreneurs looking for advice or help. I’m also happy to donate my time if you are looking for a guest lecturer at a local college, high school, or non-profit organization (I've guest lectured on SEO and Link Building at the Brigham Young University Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology.) I assume my lecture was OK, since I've been invited back repeatedly :)
Please, feel free to contact me if you need help or advice with a project, a speaker, or anything else.
I am married to my wonderful wife Ashley, who is an amazing artist and soon-to-be author. You can see her art at PaintingsbyAshley.com, and her writing will soon be up at AshleyMcRoberts.com. She is the most amazing woman in the world, and I count myself lucky every single day. Please, buy a painting, you’ll make her super happy!
I’ve always had a lot of opinions, something of a twisted sense of humor, and an unusually adventurous life. If you took Samuel Clemens, George Carlin, and Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes), and mixed them all together, you’d have me.
