Sam McRoberts' Seattle SEO and Internet Marketing Portfolio
I am, first and foremost, an SEO. What, you ask, is an SEO. Actually, the answer is quite complex, but Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz has kindly put together the following graphic to summarize what an SEO is and does:
So I'm an SEO, and that is what I do. My work portfolio has two parts: Internet marketing (particularly SEO) and writing. You can explore my writing portfolio here, and my Internet marketing portfolio is below.
Previous Internet Marketing Clients
The following logos represent about half of the clients that I have done work for since 2007. Depending on the client, I've done everything from web design and search engine optimization to reputation management, social media marketing, custom analysis work, content writing and more. Confidentiality agreements prevent me from giving out specifics. If you would like a comprehensive list of every client that I've worked with, I'd be happy to provide it.
Internet Marketing Success
On average, the clients I have worked with have gone from a starting rank of 102 (the 11th page on Google), to ranking first page on Google (#10 or better), within a period of 6-8 months. This represents an average ranking improvement of 94 positions, and an incredible increase in traffic. I've worked successfully with hundreds of companies in as many industries, and the vast majority of them have achieved their ranking goals (most faster than they thought possible.)
For example, the following chart shows the success of one of my clients:
I began work for the above client on July 31st, 2010. The January-June 2010 numbers were almost identical to the July numbers, so prior to my work their online growth had been static. With just 5 months of SEO work and just 10 hours of work each month, they saw an 855% increase in traffic, and a 692% increase in pageviews.
This is a common result of proper SEO implementation, not some rare aberration. Here is another more recent example:
For the above client, they started focusing on SEO about 6 months ago. When we started, in terms of their focus keywords, they had just 2 keywords ranking in the Top 50 on Google, and 3 ranking on Bing. 6 months later they now have 84 keywords ranking in the Top 50 on Google, and 86 on Bing. Of those 84 keywords ranking on Google, 62 of them are in the Top 3 positions, and 34 of them are #1 rankings. Keep in mind that this was an incredibly competitive space, with a lot of history, and this client was relatively new to this category. Not too shabby :)
While many SEO experts focus only on rankings, I prefer to monitor factors such as an increase in traffic from organic sources, conversion rates, average order values, net profit margins and more. By combining traditional SEO elements with conversion optimization techniques, while monitoring a variety of KPIs, I am better able to provide my clients with a measurable, profitable ROI.
In terms of reputation management, I have helped international companies and billionaire individuals alike to successfully remove negative results from the first page of Google. I have also trained companies on how best to respond to detractors, and how to turn angry critics into raving fans. I've worked with a wide variety of monitoring tools, from Radian6 to YextRep. If you don't like what is showing up for your name or your business name, I can fix it.
I've consulted on numerous social media campaigns, and have helped to build quality fans and followers. Unless I'm directed to do otherwise I focus on quality over quantity, as that tends to provide the highest possible conversion rates. Every client who has followed my recommendations has been more than satisfied with the results. Another of my recent clients increased their social presence threefold by following my recommendations.
I've also managed numerous paid search campaigns, and am currently managing $6,000,000 per year in PPC spend (for this particular client, in a 9 month period, we've increased their lead volume by 64%, while decreasing their cost per lead by 19%.) For one of my other PPC optimization clients I was able to cut their ad spend by 50%, while at the same time increasing their conversion rates by 300%, and that was with a one-time overhaul consisting of 5 hours of work.
